Mittee | Produce Storage and Freshness Container

The COVID-19 pandemic has brought a new mindset when it comes to food consumption at home. But busy schedules and lack of education regarding food can result in neglect and large amounts of food waste. Lack of food management and maintenance in the home can lead to an increase in food waste. Mittee is a produce storage container that provides a simple way of reducing waste by increasing longevity. Controlled ethylene gas and moisture levels are essential to the longevity of produce. By using terra-cotta modules and water in the bottom tray, a controlled amount of moisture is created. Ethylene gas is either retained or released through adjustable air vents on the side.

This project was featured and recognized at 2021 Industrial Design Student Exhibition. Then in April 2021, out of a pool of proposed projects from the University of Houston Department of Industrial Design, College of Engineering, and College of Technology, Mittee was one of 5 projects selected by the Wolf Center of Entrepreneurship for the senior students to develop into a potential startup in collaboration with myself. This collaboration continued till May 2022.
